Sup y’all!
Happy 4th of July!!!! Today was a zuri sana (very good) day. It was our last work day and we finished guvu (strong)! Big news: Helen found her camera after a long & strenuous search. A kind villager was the hero of the day. In other news, we had a debate about whether education or money was more important with the Banjika kids, followed by a game of soccer. We are brainstorming over a productive idea for when we get back in the states to help everyone we have met here. We ended the day with a 4th celebration. It included cheeseburgers, fries, baked beans, mac & cheese, and more. What a blessing somewhat American food was! ‘Murica
See you soon
Xoxo McKelen (McKenna and Helen)

Shoutouts:
Mama Monk (Capucine) - If you could be ever so kind and bake the infamous 7 minute chocolate chip cookies for the gang’s home coming that would be fab. Thank you! Love youuu
Mrs. McGlasson – for bringing Emme and the gang gallons of Milo’s sweet tea. Much appreciated. And possibly some
Mama Scanlan – Abby has requested oatmeal chocolate chip cookies at the airport.
Mama Brown  -  Love Nick

If you can’t tell, we are dying for American southern style food. And of course, our families! And p.s. – please don’t plan on buying or making any meals with rice, beef, or bread, or pasta, or bananas, or papaya juice from now until ever… Asante sana (thank you very much)

End of Homestays

Mimijaseri (perseverance), This is what it took to make it through our 2-day/night homestay! We experienced everything from authentic African cooking to peeing in a hole.  Dougie even managed to pee on herself (it was a little dark).  Many of us woke up with mosquito nets covering our beds, while others woke up with chickens on their heads.  Dougie enjoyed watching the cows being milked right before drinking the milk straight from the cow. Abbey and Caroline got to watch a live chicken being chopped! All in all it was a very rewarding experience learning about a different culture and meeting new families.  While we loved our homestays, we were very excited to take showers and come back to warm beds.  We are all working on our Swahili and are making lots of new friends.  Tomorrow is Safari; we will be up bright and early at 5:15 to ensure we see the big cats.

Love Abby & Dougie,
ShoutOut to Mr. K for eating all of my good when I don’t eat it Dougie
ShoutOut to the Dingess fam, can’t wait to see you and Bunny
ShoutOut to Mr. Smith for being my replacement Mommy
Shoutout to the Scanlan fam, miss y’all!!
